Freja Smart a unique Corten steel planter that has a reservoir at the bottom to collect water, which helps the plants to withstand the dry season better. The flower box has a double bottom and a water overflow pipe. Water will be collected between the two bases, the reservoir has a capacity of 12 litres. Excess water will flow out of the planter through the overflow pipe.

Made from Corten steel which is almost pure carbon steel but processed in order to have a protective layer on the surface to make it weather-proof. The surface is originally greyish, due the weather conditions it turns reddish-brown (resembles the colour of rusting), which becomes darker within time.

If used properly, Corten steel is expressive, durable and maintenance-free and can stand the test of time in its own peculiar way.

  • An overflow pipe regulates the amount of water at the bottom of the planter
  • When filling the planter with soil, a 5 cm layer of gravel should be placed on the bottom so that the soil does not clog the holes and the roots can reach the water
